The rise of digital music has challenged the relatively closed system of the traditional music industry. Independent bands and musicians have more promotional and marketing channels to display their work. The Renaissance Foundation, under the sponsorship of Create Hong Kong of the HKSAR Government, has launched the Ear Up Music Record Label Creation and Incubation Programme to empower young Hong Kong music talents through education and mentorship, and to create a more sustainable and diverse music ecology. HKU GE is one of the supporting units.
In the second session of the lecture series, Mr. Ridgely Wei (Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong), Mr. James Chan (SEEAHOLE) and representative from Hong Kong Recording Industry Alliance, will share their views and experiences on handling copyright issues in the music industry.
